Peter J. Fortin, CPA

Lansing AccountingPeter Fortin is the original founder of the firm and has been the Managing Partner since its inception in 1989.

Peter’s professional experience includes managerial accounting, financial statement compilation, review and analysis, cost analysis, operational planning, bank loan financing, strategic planning, and business valuation services. He has also provided litigation support services and has served as an expert witness in Federal court. In addition, he has participated in and led compliance audit reviews for the State of Michigan, and has provided forensic accounting services to various private and public sector clients.

He has served clients in a variety of industries, including construction and real estate development, commercial and professional services, retail, and the restaurant and food service industry.

Prior to starting the firm, he held staff accounting positions with two public accounting firms and an accountant position with Lansing Electric.

Peter graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Accounting. He is a Fellow with the American Board of Forensic Accounting, and is a member of both the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Gregory S. Sobczak, CPA

CPA Tax Resolution Expert

Gregory Sobczak specializes in tax related controversies at the federal and state level, including examinations, collections and appellate conferences.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Central Michigan University in 1985. He obtained his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1990.

Greg spent twenty one years with the Internal Revenue Service, where he held the position of Revenue Agent from 1986 through 1997, conducting individual, corporate and partnership audits throughout the State of Michigan and several states across the country. In 1997 to 2007 he held the position of Appeals Officer in North Carolina and Michigan wherein he settled cases on Appeal from both the Examination and Collection functions. Greg also accepted a number of other assignments in his 20 years with the federal government including coordination of large projects and issues, developing text material and training of new employees.

Greg has significant experience in resolving tax controversies concerning the assessment and collection of taxes. He has handled the representation of individuals, small, medium and large businesses and tax exempt entities. He has successfully resolved income tax disputes, employment tax, IFTA taxes and sales & use tax disputes, trust fund recovery penalty determinations, lien and levy issues as well as related penalties from federal and state taxing authorities.

He currently serves as a consultant to various corporate and individual clients and has successfully collaborated with our team on a number of projects for our clients.

Dana L. Barclay, CPA

CPA Manager

Accountant, AccountingDana has been with the firm since 2002.  She is a graduate of Hope College and has over nine years of accounting experience.  She has both a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Hope College and an Associate in Business Accounting.  As a QuickBooks Proadvisor Dana specializes in accounting system implementation and training.  She is an expert at set up and training of QuickBooks and other accounting information systems.  Dana can provide training and support to your staff in the area of accounting processes and implementation.  Dana also assists in individual income tax preparation, tax planning, payroll tax return preparation, and improving utilization of financial and management reports for planning and decision making.

Matthew M. Barczak

CPA MBA Lead Staff AccountantLansing Accounting

Matt received his Bachelors and Masters degree in Business Administration from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  While completing his Bachelors degree, Matt played 4 years of basketball at Davenport University. 

Recently, Matt passed his CPA exam and FC&E, would like to congratulate him on his accomplishment.  He is a member of both the AICPA and MACPA.
